Tenure of Scholarship

Entering freshmen are appointed for four years; appointments to sophomores are for two years. All appointments are reviewed annually to ensure that Regents Scholars adhere to the academic requirements below.

Honorarium

Regents Scholars who do not have financial need, as determined by established criteria, will receive an honorarium in the amount of in-state registration fees for the first year of appointment. The honorarium will be awarded for each subsequent year of the appointment, assuming eligibility is maintained. If a Regents Scholar's financial status changes, he or she may request that the Financial Aid Office reevaluate eligibility for a need-based stipend.

Need-Based Stipends

A financial aid application must be filed each year of tenure to be evaluated for the need-based stipend. The filing dates will be the same as the official filing dates for all financial aid applicants.

Stipends are determined annually and are based on financial need. The Regents Scholar stipend is designed to supplement the student's resources (savings, summer earnings, parents' contribution, and benefits or scholarships awarded by other agencies). Stipends are not granted to non-resident students for out-of-state tuition. Stipends are subject to the availability of funds and will not exceed a maximum figure set each year by the University.

Reevaluation of the need-based stipend occurs when a Regents Scholar receives any other financial assistance, including a Cal Grant A or B, or if unforeseen circumstances cause a reduction or increase in the student's personal or family resources.

Please report to the campus Financial Aid Office all outside financial assistance, scholarships, and benefits, received from any sources from the date of acceptance of the Regents Scholarship throughout the appointment period.

Special Privileges

Regents Scholars must be sure to meet all required deadlines for applications and materials to secure these privileges.
    Preferential Pre-Enrollment
Preferred early enrollment will be offered beginning with the second quarter after appointment as a Regents Scholar. Enrollment information will be posted online before each quarter begins.

    Housing
All Regents Scholars entering UCLA as freshmen are guaranteed housing in the University Residence Halls for four years provided that they complete and submit housing applications by the deadlines. Regents Scholars entering as Transfers are gauranteed two years of housing. Rooms and residence halls are subject to availability. Housing applicants will be sent additional information in the spring prior to attending UCLA. Questions should be directed to the On-Campus Housing Office.

    Bonus Parking Points
Regents Scholars who apply for parking by the appropriate deadlines are gauranteed on-campus parking (lot availibility may vary). Parking applications are validated in the Financial Aid Office, A129J Murphy Hall. Read more on the parking point system here. Questions and concerns should be directed to the Transportation Office.

    Regents Scholar Society
All Regents Scholars are eligible for membership in this official campus organization.

Academic Requirements

During tenure as a Regents Scholar, students are required to notify the Scholarship Coordinator by Friday of the second week of classes if they are not registered for the quarter. Failure to do so will result in automatic termination of tenure as a Regents Scholar. They are also required to notify the Scholarship Coordinator of any change in their academic status (such as graduation, graduate status, or withdrawal) during the period for which the scholarship has been awarded. If withdrawal from the University occurs for a valid reason, arrangements may be made through the Scholarship Coordinator for a specific leave of absence from the Regents Scholarship Program. This will ensure continued tenure of Regents Scholar status upon returning to UCLA.

Students are required to enroll for a minimum of 12 units per quarter during their tenure as Regents Scholars and to make satisfactory academic progress toward a baccalaureate degree.

Renewal of Scholarships: The minimum academic requirement for renewal is a 3.0 grade-point average.

Change of Academic Status

If Regents Scholars are granted official leaves of absence from the University they must notify the Scholarship Coordinator in the UCLA Financial Aid Office to retain their appointment as Regents Scholars.

Students must notify the Scholarship Coordinator of any change in their academic status, such as taking less than 12 units per quarter or withdrawal from the University.
