AVID
LAMP provides one-on-one tutoring to students through the AVID program at University High. AVID not only encourages students to meet and supersede their academic goals, but also gives students the unique opportunity to build a support network with college students who can provide firsthand knowledge, advice and support throughout the college admission process. The AVID tutoring experience is designed to provide easily accessible resources available to help these students attain a sense of empowerment and success when it comes to the college application process.
Features of AVID Tutoring:
- One-on-one tutoring to help students with their academics.
- The LAMP writing curriculum, which is designed to help students acquire the skills to write an effective personal statement.
- Provides students from low SES backgrounds with notebooks in order to keep their writing curriculum organized and separate from their schoolwork.
- Brings students to the UCLA campus for campus visits.
- Provides the opportunity for students to experience the college atmosphere, which is particularly helpful for many students who will be the first in their family to attend college.
- Positive reinforcement for students to seek out supportive communities.
- Helps students envision themselves in a college environment.
