- I have heard rumors about college students’ wild activities. Will there be any of that during OSP?
- Because OSP is an RSS-organized event, there will no tolerance for drinking, drugs, smoking, or other illicit activities.
- Why are some OSP sessions only 2 days and others 3 days? What’s the difference?
- We arranged to have 2-day and 3-day sessions to allow greater flexibility for the prospective scholars. No OSP session is better than the others; read over the OSP itineraries to see which one best fits you.
- Who will I be staying with? Where will I be staying?
- We will do our best to match you with your mentor, unless he or she is unable to host people during your session of choice. If your mentor is unavailable, we’ll match you with a host of the same gender and, if possible, area of interest. Whether you stay in an apartment or in the residence halls depends on your mentor’s accomodations; although we realize that some prospective scholars may prefer one over the other, we want to remind you that there will be activies in both the residence halls and the apartments during OSP, and that you will have plenty of exposure to both environments regardless of where you spend the night.
- A friend of mine is also a prospective scholar. Can we stay with the same host?
- Unfortunately, this is not possible due to the number of requests we receive. Moreover, we would like to remind you that OSP is a unique opportunity to meet new people and spend time with a host who knows a lot about your planned major or area of interest; making roommate requests would detract from these aspects of OSP. And of course, there are plenty of joint activities where everybody gets together (tours, dinner, etc), so you’ll see your friends then even if they’re staying with different hosts.
- Do I have to participate in the scheduled OSP activities, or can I do my own thing?
- OSP sessions have planned activities for prospective scholars to meet each other and current RSS members. We encourage you to be part of the group so that you can enjoy the full OSP experience. There will be time set aside for you and your host to do things that are not on the schedule.
- How can my parents reach me while I’m at UCLA?
- Your parents can reach you at any time by calling your cell phone or the phone number of your host. You will also be able to access your email account during your stay here if your parents prefer to check in with you that way. Additionally, if your parents are interested to know what you will be doing each day and when, they can look through the specific itinerary for your OSP session.
